What is your Birthstone?
A birthstone is associated with the month that a person was born. The origin of birthstones trace back to the bible, specifically to the breastplate of Aaron which contained 12 gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. Later the connection was made between the 12 stones in the breastplate and the 12 signs of the zodiac. The modern list of the birthstones was defined on 1912 by the National Association of Jewelers in the USA.
In 2002 the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) announced that they had added Tanzanite as a birthstone for December, though December already had two birthstones: Turquoise and Zircon.
It is believed that birthstones have the healing and mystical protective powers, also brings a good luck to a wearer.
